Description of the wood
• Sapwood: Yellowish-white.
• Heartwood: Dark brown to chocolate brown.
• Grain: Straight.
• Texture: Medium to coarse.
Impregnation
• Sapwood: Moderately impregnable
• Heartwood: Not impregnable
Mechanization
• Sawing: No problems other than its hardness and some abrasiveness.
• Drying: Slow. Slight risk of warping and high risk of cracking.
• Planing: Difficult due to its hardness and abrasiveness.
• Gluing: The tannins hinder good adhesion.
• Nailing and screwing: Due to its hardness, pre-drilling is recommended.
• Finishing: No special problems.
Applications
• Fine interior and exterior furniture and joinery. Turned and bentwood furniture.
• Interior carpentry: doors, stairs, paneling, moldings, baseboards, wainscoting, parquet flooring.
• Exterior carpentry: doors and windows.
• Decorative veneers.
