• Heartwood ranges from creamy white to very pale pink
• Straight grain
• Coarse texture
• Defects: Not recommended for veneer by peeling or flat cutting.
Impregnation
• Sapwood: impregnable
• Heartwood: poorly impregnable
Mechanization
• Sawing: Easy.
• Drying: Between slow and normal. Air drying is not recommended.
• Gluing: No problems. Note its high absorption rate.
• Nailing and screwing: Nails penetrate well but hold poorly.
• Finishing: Apply a wood sealer before finishing.
Applications
• Scale models, miniature models.
• Floats, harnesses, lifeboats, signaling buoys.
• Toys, special packaging.
• Sandwich panels.
• Sound insulation.
