• Sapwood: Yellowish-white
• Heartwood: Reddish-brown
• Grain: Straight
• Texture: Medium
• Characteristic defects: Knots, resin pockets, pitching, and juvenile wood
Impregnation
• Sapwood: Moderately to slightly impregnable
• Heartwood: Not impregnable
Mechanization
• Sawing: Easy, unless there is excess resin.
• Drying: Easy and fast. Small risk of cracking and warping, resin exudation.
• Planing: Easy, risk of resin clogging.
• Gluing: Problems if there is excess resin.
• Nailing and screwing: Requires pre-drilling.
• Finishing: Problems when resin is present. It is advisable to apply a primer to homogenize the wood.
Applications
• Interior and semi-exterior joinery and cladding: Doors, windows, flooring, wainscoting.
• Structural joinery: Rustic and youth furniture.
Mechanical properties
