Milicia excelsa (Botanical name) Common name: Iroko · Kambala · Origin: West and Central Africa Characteristics of Iroko Iroko is a tropical hardwood highly valued for its strength , excellent natural durability , and suitability for both interior and exterior applications. It has a warm appearance, with a yellowish-brown heartwood that may darken over time, and a lighter, pale yellow sapwood. The grain is typically straight , although it may occasionally appear slightly interlocked, and the texture is medium to coarse . These characteristics give it good dimensional stability and reliable resistance to moisture, making it a natural alternative to teak in many applications.
